Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia recently met with representatives from the World Bank and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to reaffirm the city’s dedication to completing two major infrastructure projects: the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the city’s sewerage master plan. The discussions took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City on November 8, 2024.
During a press conference, Mayor Garcia addressed concerns raised by World Bank officials regarding delays in the BRT project. He emphasized the urgency of completing the project before the loan agreement with the World Bank expires in 2026. The BRT, valued at PHP19 billion, remains the city’s sole mass transport initiative.
In addition to the BRT, Garcia also engaged with JICA, Yokohama City, and other stakeholders to discuss the Comprehensive Sewerage System Development Project. This initiative, costing between PHP20 million and PHP30 million, aims to enhance Cebu City’s sewage and wastewater management. The project seeks to establish a sustainable and efficient sewerage system that will improve both environmental conditions and public health.
Mayor Garcia highlighted the city’s commitment to working collaboratively with Japanese experts to elevate public health and environmental standards through these crucial projects.
