DSWD-Cordillera Dispatches Over 13,000 Relief Packs to Aid Typhoon Marce Victims in Cagayan Valley

·

In a significant relief effort, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) has mobilized 13,200 relief packs to assist those affected by Typhoon Marce in Cagayan Valley. The relief operation, announced by DSWD-Cordillera Director Maria Aplaten on November 8, 2024, aims to bolster the resources in the typhoon-hit areas without compromising the supply levels in Cordillera.

The relief packs are being sourced from two locations within the region: 10,000 from the main warehouse in La Trinidad, Benguet, and an additional 3,200 from a facility in Kalinga. Director Aplaten emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in disaster response, stating that such inter-regional support ensures swift aid to calamity victims.

Despite the aid being sent out, Aplaten reassured that Cordillera has sufficient supplies for its own needs, even in the face of future typhoons. She mentioned that new deliveries are expected before the region could be hit by another typhoon, ensuring continuous support for affected communities.

As of the latest reports, 3,072 individuals across 65 villages in Cordillera have been impacted by Typhoon Marce, with 2,165 of them currently sheltered in evacuation centers. Additionally, Aplaten noted that some relief supplies have been strategically pre-positioned in warehouses managed by local governments to enhance the efficiency of the relief distribution.
