In response to the looming threat of Typhoon Marce, also known internationally as Yinxing, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has mobilized a substantial relief effort, with over PHP105.5 million in aid and funds ready for deployment. Maria Aplaten, the regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in CAR, confirmed that the region is well-prepared to support those affected by the typhoon.

Aplaten detailed that PHP102.48 million worth of family food packs and other essential non-food items are strategically pre-positioned across the provinces, ready for immediate distribution. Additionally, PHP2.99 million in stand-by funds are available to address any emerging needs swiftly.

The impact of Typhoon Marce is already being felt, with 22 villages in Abra, Apayao, and Mountain Province reporting effects from the storm. As a result, 157 families have sought refuge in 24 evacuation centers throughout the region, while another 10 families have opted to stay with relatives or friends.

The northern areas of Apayao, including Santa Marcela, Luna, Flora, Calanasan, and Pudtol, are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4, indicating severe weather conditions. Similarly, the northern part of Abra, including Tineg, Danglas, Lagayan, Lacub, San Juan, La Paz, and Bangued, is under TCWS No. 3. Other areas such as the rest of Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and parts of Ifugao and Benguet are under TCWS No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, reflecting varying levels of typhoon impact.

The DSWD’s proactive measures, including the deployment of personnel to assist local government units, underscore the region’s commitment to safeguarding its residents during this challenging time.
